The Donald Krogstad Award for Early-Career Malian Scientists honors the legacy of Dr. Donald J. Krogstad, MD, FASTMH, a renowned physician-scientist best known for his contributions to research on the pathogenesis and treatment of malaria. He was a dedicated member and past president of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (ASTMH).
This annual award supports early-career Malian scientists in pursuing research that aims to blend laboratory and field epidemiological approaches broadly related to solving priority health issues in Mali; with the goal of improving the lives of Malians.
Moussa's research will explore why certain groups of people, despite being offered multiple rounds of mass drug administration (MDA), remain untreated. These factors are expected to be intricate and diverse. Additionally, the research will evaluate schistosomiasis prevalence in untreated versus treated populations. This data will inform the development of strategies to enhance MDA access and tackle barriers to treatment in Mali.
