Job Title: Research Consultant - Qualitative Data Analyst (Part-Time)
Position Duration: Part-time during the period of July 1, 2025 - January 31, 2026
Location: Ottawa, Canada (with possibility of remote work)
Compensation: To be negotiated with candidates
Note: This is a consultant position and does not include employee benefits such as health insurance, vacation pay, or pension contributions.
About the Role
We are seeking a Research Consultant with demonstrated experience in qualitative data analysis to support global health research projects in the field of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). The consultant will work closely with Dr. Alison Krentel and the Threads Lab research team (https://www.thethreadslab.org/) to analyze qualitative data from a range of sources including in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, micronarratives, and audio-recorded transcripts. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to impactful research focused on strengthening community-based health programs and may involve travel to Uganda depending on project needs.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct thematic analysis of qualitative data including:
o In-depth interview (IDI) transcripts
o Micronarrative data
o Focus group discussion (FGD) notes and transcripts
o Audio recordings
Develop and manage codebooks and coding framework using tools such as NVivo software
Ensure rigorous qualitative research standards are applied across all analyses
Collaborate with the project research teams to interpret findings and develop key themes
Participate in virtual team meetings and prepare reports based on the analysis
Assist with preparing presentations, manuscripts, or other knowledge products
Support study-related travel to Uganda for in-person data collection and capacity building (travel fully covered)
Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in Public Health, Social Sciences, Health Management, Global Health, Anthropology, or a related field
Minimum 3 years of experience conducting qualitative research and analysis
Proven experience in working with diverse qualitative datasets
Familiarity with health systems research, community-based programming, or global/public health contexts preferred
Excellent proficiency in qualitative software (e.g., NVivo)
Strong writing, synthesis, and presentation skills
Ability to work independently, manage timelines, and maintain data confidentiality
Cross-cultural awareness and flexibility to support work in low-resource settings
Bilingualism (French and English) is preferred
Role Logistics:
This is a part-time consultancy (flexible based on project phase)
Work is based in Ottawa, with flexibility for remote work
Travel to Uganda may be required based on the evolving needs of the project; all travel expenses will be covered if travel occurs
